Hotels & Resorts
Rooms are perishable and sold in several places at once, so availability has to be right everywhere at the same moment.
The system
How this business actually flows.
A hotel does not just need a website. A room is only sellable until the night it exists, and it is on sale in six places simultaneously. Rates, availability, the booking channels and the front-desk system all have to agree with each other, continuously, or you either sell the same room twice or leave it empty.

What's different here
Why hotels & resorts cannot be run like anything else.
These are the operational realities that change what the right digital system looks like.
Your stock expires every single night
A shop can sell yesterday’s unsold item today. You cannot sell last night’s empty room. That single fact is why pricing, availability and channel management matter more here than in almost any other business.
You sell the same thing in several places at once
Your website, a handful of travel platforms, phone bookings and walk-ins are all drawing from one pool of rooms. Without one system controlling that pool, overbooking is not a risk, it is a matter of time.
Commission is the biggest lever you have
Travel platforms bring genuine demand and charge for it. Every booking moved from a platform to your own website keeps that margin. Getting direct bookings up is usually worth more than getting total bookings up.
Reviews are your product description
Guests choose on recent reviews and photographs more than on anything you write. Review generation and response is not reputation management here, it is sales.
The guest relationship starts before arrival
Pre-arrival messages, directions, check-in details and upsells all happen before the guest sees the property. Handled well they raise the rating; ignored they generate front-desk work.
Failure modes
How these businesses actually lose money.
Not theory. These are the specific, recurring ways the digital side of this kind of business leaks.
- The same room sold twice because availability updates were manual
- Rates that differ between your own website and a booking platform
- A direct booking that the front desk never received
- Paying commission on guests who already knew your name and searched for you
- Listings that are live but rank nowhere within the platform
- A guest database that exists only inside the platforms, so you cannot bring anyone back

Questions
Common questions in this industry.
We are already on the big travel platforms. Why do we need our own booking system?
Because every booking through a platform costs you commission and the guest belongs to them, not to you. Many guests find a property on a platform and then search for the hotel by name before booking — if there is no easy way to book directly at that moment, you pay commission on a guest who was already yours. A direct booking engine captures those, and gives you the guest’s details so a second stay is possible.
Do we need a channel manager if we only use two platforms?
Probably yes, once you are also selling directly. Two platforms plus your own website plus phone bookings is four places drawing from one pool of rooms. The cost of a channel manager is usually less than the cost of one overbooked weekend and the review that follows it.
Our PMS is old. Does everything have to be replaced?
Not necessarily. The question is whether it can talk to anything else. Many older systems can, through their supplier’s connection options. If it genuinely cannot, we would rather sequence a change properly than leave you with a system that silently blocks every other improvement.
